A big thank you to all who bought plants or made a donation last weekend. Our sale raised €715. This money will help Sr. Patricia McLaughlin and her staff in their great work of teaching and empowering the children and parents of Jicamarca, Peru.
Part of their initiative is saving and passing on ancient knowledge of medical plants before the elders die and this knowledge disappears with them. They help their pupils learn about the natural environment and how to grow healthy food crops. The parents learn about hydroponics (growing plants in nutrient fortified water).
Last year during one of our Wednesday Coffee Mornings we heard of the experience of Sr. Ann O’Connell, a Loretto sister working in the area. We also showed a recording depicting the barren landscape in which the Faith and Hope school is situated and heard the people, young and old, expressing their gratitude for the help received from Ireland.
