Opening of the Dominican Jubilee – 7th Nov 2015

Opening of the Dominican Jubilee – 7th Nov 2015

by Robert Regula / Thursday, 22 October 2015 / Published in 800Jubilee

Date:   Saturday, 7 November 2015 (Feast of All Saints of the Order)

Location:  Provinces – local communities of the Dominican Family

Coordination:

Steering committee of the Jubilee : iubileum2016@curia.op.org
Liturgical Commission OP : commissio.liturgica@curia.op.org
Provincials and local superiors
Provincial promoters of the Jubilee

Each province and each local community, in cooperation with the different branches of the Dominican Family, are invited to celebrate a solemn opening ceremony of the Jubilee on 7 November 2015. The Steering Committee of the Jubilee shall forward a common liturgical text and symbol that will help give unity to all celebrations.

That same day, the Master of the Order will preside at a solemn opening celebration of the Jubilee in the Basilica of Santa Sabina with the participation of all the branches of the Dominican Family. This celebration will be streamed live via the website of the Order.

Symbols for the celebration of the opening:

According to Constantine of Orvieto while St. Dominic was praying at the Basilica of St. Peter in Rome, he saw the Apostles Peter and Paul approaching him. St. Peter handed him a stick, and St. Paul a book, saying, “Go and preach, because you have been chosen by God for this ministry.”

In the opening ceremony of our Jubilee we want to take these elements of the Dominican iconography once more: the stick, the book and the apostolic mandate, which introduce us to the common theme for all the Jubilee celebrations: “Sent to preach the Gospel.”
