Ash Wednesday 2021

Ash Wednesday 2021

ASH WEDNESDAY AND LENTEN RESOURCES 2021

The imposition of Ashes on Ash Wednesday is one of the annual liturgies that draw people in great numbers. Within our current restrictions we can’t do it as in previous years.  As a Christian Community we try to be innovative in finding ways to celebrate key moments despite limitations.

So, we invite you to burn last year’s palm branch, take ashes from the fire grate, or gather some earth from the garden.

Place these on a dish. During the online Ash Wednesday celebration (in our parish at 10.00am at www.churchservices.tv/tallaght#) you can can ask the Lord to bless the ashes with holy water using the formula attached.
Alternatively, the celebrant can offer a blessing from a distance.

If people within a household ‘bubble’ are present, ashes can be freely distributed. Attached is the relevant text with a detailed formula for the signing of the senses at this moment. This will extend the ceremony and enrich the sense of the domestic church in action.
