{"id":4710,"date":"2017-12-21T20:43:43","date_gmt":"2017-12-21T20:43:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stmarys-tallaght.ie\/site\/?p=4710"},"modified":"2017-12-21T20:43:43","modified_gmt":"2017-12-21T20:43:43","slug":"annual-aquinas-lecture-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stmarys-tallaght.ie\/site\/annual-aquinas-lecture-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Annual Aquinas Lecture 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Starts: Sunday, Jan 28th, 2018 at 8:00pm,<\/p>\n<p>Location: Priory Institute, St. Mary\u2019s Priory, Tallaght<\/p>\n<p>Lecture will be delivered by <b>fr Wojciech Giertych OP. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Theme: <b>The Moral Theology of Aquinas: Is it for Individuals?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Wojciech Giertych, O.P.\u00a0 <\/b>has served in the Prefecture of the Pontifical Household as Theologian of the Pontifical Household during the pontificates of Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis.<\/p>\n<p>One of\u00a0 nine children, he was born in London, England in 1951 to writer J\u0119drzej Giertych and his wife Maria, six years after his family emigrated from Warsaw.<\/p>\n<p>Giertych began his studies at St Ignatius&#8217; College in Stamford Hill. After completing his studies at St Ignatius&#8217; in 1970, he studied history at Adam Mickiewicz University in Pozna\u0144. After graduating from the university, he joined the Dominican novitiate in 1975. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1981 in Krak\u00f3w. He is an alumnus of the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome, Italy, from which he obtained a licentiate in spiritual theology in 1983 and a doctorate in 1989 with a dissertation titled <i>The new law as a rule for acts<\/i>. Giertych has been a professor of moral theology at the Angelicum since 1994. Since 1998, he has held various roles as a member of the General Council of the Dominicans.<\/p>\n<p>He was appointed Theologian of the Papal Household on 1 December 2005 by Pope Benedict XVI.
